The first Express Entry draw of the year under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) saw Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issue 471 invitations to apply (ITAs). To be selected, applicants needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 793.
This marks the initial Express Entry draw of 2025, following two PNP draws and one targeting French language proficiency in December. In total, 2,561 ITAs were distributed during December.
Throughout 2024, IRCC predominantly focused on the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), PNP, and French language proficiency categories. This approach is expected to continue into 2025. Those with French language skills, as well as individuals with experience in health care and trade sectors, are being prioritized in the Federal Economic Priorities category, as outlined in the new Immigration Levels Plan. The “In-Canada Focus” category, which includes CEC and PNP candidates along with all Express Entry applicants, is projected to make up the majority of admissions under Express Entry in 2025, with a target of 124,680 landings.
